UK: Dandara Living and Gamuda Land UK have announced a joint venture to develop City Warf, a PBSA scheme in Glasgow.

Dandara Living, the PBSA and BTR division of Dandara Group, has partnered with property developer Gamuda Land UK to address the shortage of student housing in one of the UK’s most undersupplied university cities.

Glasgow is home to more than 88,000 full-time students and faces a shortfall of 22,000 student beds.

City Wharf will deliver 492 new student beds, comprising a mix of modern studio and cluster rooms. The partnership aligns with Gamuda’s broader PBSA strategy, which targets the delivery of 3,000 student beds across the UK by 2027.

Dandara Living will act as both developer and contractor, with construction already underway in 2024. Completion is targeted for the 2026/27 academic year.

In line with Glasgow’s climate targets and planning policies, City Wharf is designed with a focus on sustainability.

The scheme will integrate low and zero-carbon technologies, including air-source heat pumps, to achieve a BREEAM Very Good Rating.

Located adjacent to Kingston Bridge at Anderston Quay, City Wharf offers a central location, within walking distance of Glasgow’s central business district, key retail areas, and three major universities, the University of Glasgow, University of Strathclyde, and Glasgow Caledonian University.

Jim Davies, CEO of Dandara Living, said: “We are delighted to partner with Gamuda Land UK on the City Wharf development. Their expertise and strategic vision align perfectly with our commitment to delivering sustainable, high-quality student accommodation. This project will not only provide much-needed beds but will also contribute to the ongoing regeneration of Glasgow’s Clyde waterfront, bringing further vibrancy and investment to the area.”

Chu Wai Lune, CEO of Gamuda Land said: “Gamuda views the UK as a key strategic destination for real estate investment. Since 2022, Gamuda has committed a total gross development value of £1.4 billion to the UK market, spanning prime commercial office assets, residential properties, and PBSA.”Dand

“As we expand our footprint in the UK, we see City Wharf as an exciting opportunity to contribute meaningfully to Glasgow’s student housing landscape. Our focus has always been on creating thoughtfully designed, sustainable communities, and this project aligns perfectly with that ethos,” he added.

City Wharf is Gamuda’s second UK PBSA project, following its 299-bedroom development in Woolwich, London, which is being delivered in partnership with Q Investment Partners (QIP).
