UK: Retailer John Lewis Partnership has scaled back on its plans for a build-to-rent (BTR) scheme in Reading in response to residents’ regarding the number of dwellings.

The proposed plans, submitted to Reading Borough Council,  now include 170 flats instead of 215, which will be contained in one new apartment block.

The height of the building has also being downscaled with the originally planned 11 storeys becoming eight.

John Lewis has also updates the architectural detailing, Juliet balconies and landscaping in what the retailer described as refinements to the original planning.

The 170 flats are divided between 70 one-bed, 81 two-bed and 10 three-bed properties, with 17 of them meeting affordable Local Housing Allowance requirements.

John Lewis Partnership director of build-to-rent Katherine Russell said: “We’ve been proud to be part of the Reading community for over 50 years, so it’s very important to us that we deliver the best possible scheme and one that benefits the community.

“If these plans are approved, we will create much-needed high-quality rental homes, a green, community space for the people of Reading and local jobs. We thank Reading Borough Council and local community groups for their input.”
