ARL invites applications to join its board

ARL board

UK: The Association for Rental Living (ARL) is inviting applications from BTR sector specialists to join its board.

Established in 2016 as the UK Apartment Association (UKAA), the membership body has created strong networks for sharing best practice, connecting suppliers with investors and operators, and generating awareness of the BTR sector. The organisation has evolved alongside the sector, rebranding to the ARL as of March 2024 and represents all institutionally backed, professionally managed purpose-built rental living sectors including urban and suburban single-family and multi-family rental, co-living and later living.

The ARL is now seeking individuals with “the strategic vision and experience to shape the future of the wider BTR and living sectors” for a range of board roles, including a chair, vice-chair, secretary and treasurer, along with legal and governance directors and special advisors. The reconstituting of the ARL Board is due to complete by the end of 2024.

Building the new board is part of the ARL’s natural evolution to embrace a wider remit to fully represent the range of sectors within the BTR umbrella. The board of the ARL is responsible for the overall control, governance and strategic direction of the organisation in representing the sector.

CEO Brendan Geraghty said: “On behalf of the ARL, I extend my thanks to our current board members for their outstanding service in guiding and shaping the organisation since its inception eight years ago. The ARL is now perfectly positioned to further shape the living sector moving forward. We are excited to be seeking a range of experts and specialists to join us on that journey, as we implement a clear succession plan for the board, to build upon the success of the ARL to date and meet the needs of the evolving BTR environment.”

The ARL has also appointed Iain Murray as the new chair of the ARL Scotland Hub. Murray, head of operational living at Bidwells, will take over from current chair Gillian McLees on 10th May.

ARL’s Scotland Hub brings together key living sector stakeholders through a diverse range of events that proactively address the key challenges and opportunities for the sector, showcase best practices and focus on customer service and other key operational and investment concerns. Events range from in-depth panel discussions and social events to study tours.

Murray said: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to take the work of the ARL Scotland Hub forward at this important time for the living sector here in Scotland. My thanks to Gillian for her inspired and strategic leadership of the Hub to date, which has provided a firm foundation for future success.”
