UK: BTR developer and operator Get Living is set to create around 1,350 new homes at the last two plots of its East Village development in Stratford, east London.
The company is formulating plans for the former London 2012 Athletes’ Village in Stratford, which is now home to around 6,000 people.
It will submit three planning applications, the first two for 850 BTR homes on the southern gateway to East Village, and around 500 student units on the site of a Sainsbury’s supermarket.
The third application will comprise proposals to refresh the whole public realm of East Village. Chief executive Rick de Blaby said Get Living aims to submit a reserved matters application in July for all three elements to the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC).
Get Living will be working with the University of the Arts London, which is building the London College of Fashion’s new campus nearby at East Bank, on the new PBSA units.
De Blaby said:: “It’s a privilege to be part of applications like this. They are special because they have the potential to really innovate and change the game a bit. When you’re a long-term owner and custodian of something like East Village, you have to think five, 10, 15 years ahead. It’s not just about the places we create; the homes we create really have to be relevant and compelling for what is a broadening target audience. The East Village story never ends.
“Our model is big, scaled-up neighbourhoods and we always take on big regeneration schemes in London. We also want to build up a necklace of commutable areas around London. Plus regional exposure is also important. On top of our current projects, I’m sure we’ll pick off two or three other reasonably sized schemes in major UK cities,” he added.
Get Living also has developments in Elephant & Castle, south London; and Manchester.
