Netherlands: Developer and operator Greystar, has completed construction of the tallest residential tower in Amsterdam, a built-to-rent (BTR) scheme called the Ensemble.
The mixed-use development is located in the developing Hondsrugpark area and spreads across two 120 and 100-metre-high towers.
Once completed, The Ensemble will comprise 592 homes, 80 per cent of which fall into rent-controlled categories.
The development ranges from studios to four-bedroom apartments across social rental, medium rental and free sector rental segments, providing accommodation for single occupants, young couples and small families.
The Ensemble is part of a larger regeneration of the Amstel III office district into a mixed-use urban neighbourhood.
The master plan includes two nearly energy-neutral towers, along with 20,000 square metres of commercial space, a health centre with a pharmacy, and a youth talent centre.
All facilities will be owned by the Municipality of Amsterdam.
The development has a strong focus on sustainability, with residential areas designed to be almost energy-neutral, using heat and cold storage systems, solar panels and green roofs.
The office space is targeting a BREEAM Excellent certification and exceeds Amsterdam’s current sustainability requirements.
Dylan Rietveld, manager of development at Greystar, said: “Incredible work by all those involved to get it to this key moment, final stretch before completion in six months.”
Originally led by Great Grey Investments and Wonam, the residential element of the development was acquired by Greystar on behalf of its Greystar Equity Partners Europe fund.
Greystar was advised by Houthoff, Deloitte and Savills on the transaction. ING and Rabobank provided financing for the acquisition.
