UK: Developer CERT has submitted a planning application for a 99-unit BTR scheme, backed by the family office of local entrepreneur Oliver Cookson, the founder of MyProtein and Verve.
The New Cross site of the scheme, now a disused car park, was first developed in the early-19th century, becoming the Royal Lancastrian School, and is located alongside CERT’s Peelers Yard, an 81-apartment development on the 1800s police station site on Goulden Street.
Both projects are backed by Cookson, and will be operated by CERT’s property management team upon completion.
The Cross Keys Street project will feature a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments and townhouses, some with terraces. The scheme will include a landscaped courtyard, communal lounge and rooftop garden.
CERT managing director Howard Lord said: “We’re pleased to be able to bring forward this project, being our second in the New Cross neighbourhood and our second with Oliver and his family office team. This neighbourhood is a great example of how co-ordinated urban regeneration can transform areas, with most of New Cross being car parks or disused properties only a few years ago. We believe in the location and the continued strength of the residential market in Manchester and are looking forward to bringing this scheme forwards.”
Oliver Cookson added: “I’m thrilled to be partnering with CERT to bring two exceptional developments to life in my hometown of Manchester. As someone born at Withington Hospital, just five miles away from the site, it’s a deeply personal experience to be investing in the local community that has shaped me. I’m excited to see the positive impact these developments will have on the neighbourhood.
“These projects will not only provide high-quality housing in a prime location, but also support the thriving community of independent businesses in the area. As the founder of Verve, a greens powder business, I’m passionate about creating healthy and sustainable living spaces that benefit both people and the planet. I’m proud to be giving back to the community that has given me so much, and I’m looking forward to seeing the benefits these developments will bring to the local community.”
