UK: MRP, the investment and development arm of construction group McAleer & Rush, has shelved plans for a 22-storey BTR tower from its plans for a site in Nottingham.

MRP’s initial plans for site included a two-phase scheme on Queens Road, next to Nottingham Railway Station, incorporating a PBSA building with 406 beds, and two buildings containing a total of 238 Build to Rent (BTR) apartments – one of which would reach 22 storeys in height.

In October, Nottingham City Council’s planning committee unanimously voted to defer a decision on the £100 million scheme to a future meeting, subject to further consideration of architecture, form, and “the contribution to the Nottingham skyline.”

MRP has decided to shelve plans for the BTR elements of the scheme, and concentrate solely on the PSA units.

The removal of the two BTR buildings (phase 2 of the scheme) will allow phase 1 to move forward whilst a more detailed review of the design for these buildings, and the London Road Tower in particular, is carried out to address the concerns raised by committee.

It is thought that MRP will submit a new planning application for phase 2 in early 2023.

The scaled-down scheme has been given the go ahead by planning officers at Nottingham City Council.
