UK: Build-to-Rent (BTR) developer PLATFORM has secured retail lettings with Asda and Sainsbury’s at major residential schemes in Glasgow and Leeds.
A Sainsbury’s Local will open in June 2025 at the 498-apartment Anderston Quay development in Glasgow, a joint project with Northwood Investors.
Meanwhile, a 4,000 square foot Asda Express is set to open in early 2027 at Sweetfields, a 1,351-apartment scheme in Leeds’ South Bank, being delivered in partnership with Housing Growth Partnership.
Both lettings form part of PLATFORM’s wider strategy to embed essential services into its residential communities. The company already includes a Co-op store within its Cardiff scheme.
In Glasgow, the new Sainsbury’s aims to fill a gap in grocery offerings for both residents and the wider neighbourhood.
In Leeds, the Asda Express will be part of the 1.3 million square feet Sweetfields neighbourhood, which includes homes, offices, and a new public square.
Jean-Marc Vandevivere, CEO at PLATFORM, said: “We’re delighted that major grocery retailers such as Asda, Co-op, and Sainsbury’s share our vision for our chosen locations, supporting our decision to commence development and create new homes and communities on these long-vacant sites.
“These lettings endorse our assessment of the strong demographics and commercial fundamentals of these regeneration areas, which are typical of the high-growth, city centre opportunities that PLATFORM targets.”
Kevin Watson, operations and commercial director at PLATFORM, said: “We’re excited to partner with leading grocery brands like Sainsbury’s and Asda to bring much-needed services to our residents and surrounding communities.
“We believe that a truly great development isn’t just about the homes – it’s about creating a vibrant, self-sustaining environment where residents can access everything they need close to home. These stores will play an important role in this vision, alongside our other on-site amenities such as co-working spaces, gyms, and communal lounges.”
