Green light for Bristol student and coliving scheme

UK: Bristol City Council has unanimously approved plans a mixed-use scheme by Greystar and Student Roost.

The development will replace the current Rupert Street Car Park and will deliver both coliving and student accommodation. With a total of 577 beds, the scheme has been designed as a single building which gives the impression of being split into two towers.

It will include 249 coliving studio flats, green space roof terraces and a shared sky lounge for recent university graduates and key workers in Bristol, with 20 per cent of these beds offered at a discounted rent rate. There will also be 328 student beds and a student sky lounge.

Amenities including a gym, wellbeing studio, cinemas and recording studios will be available for all residents to use to work, study and socialise, alongside a shared student and coliving foyer and events space.

Greystar and Student Roost worked with sustainable living solutions real estate platform Fifth State to ensure the development is “designed and built to the highest sustainability and energy efficiency standards”. It will achieve including BREEAM Excellent.

The approved plans also include the rejuvenation of Rupert Street and the surrounding area. This includes a retail floorspace, replacement public car park with 400 spaces and electric charging points, and the enhancement of the surrounding area with the widening of pavements, green planting, outdoor seating and gentle landscaping.
