US: Vancouver-based developer Rize Alliance is putting the finishing touches to a coliving scheme in the Sawtelle neighbourhood of Los Angeles.
The four-storey development will feature 18 four- and five-bedroom cluster apartments, and is located on a corner plot one block north of Santa Monica Boulevard at 1503 S. Barrington Avenue.
It has been designed by local company Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects (LOHA), which says: “The key to the design of this project is the development of a spatial social gradient from a public area in the center common courtyard and circulation, to the individualized dining and communal spaces in each of the four volumes, to the private rooms that form a ring on the exterior facing side of the building.”
“By specifically considering the levels of social engagement and providing a gradual buffer system that strategically shields the private rooms from the communal spaces, this project is acutely aware of the complexities of co-living and provides a design that provides proper accommodations. The private spaces are outward facing and open to city views, which connects residents to their urban surroundings, while the interior courtyard connects residents to each other,” the company adds.
