UK: Developer Grantside has submitted revised plans for a coliving development at Kelham Island in Sheffield.
Supported by Urbana Town Planning and Cartwright Pickard, Grantside submitted the application to Sheffield City Council for a site bounded by Bowling Green Street, Ward Street and South Parade.
Planning permission is sought for the demolition of the existing buildings on the site and construction of a seven-storey scheme called Hive Central.
The plans comprise 100 coliving units, commercial space on the ground floor, a central courtyard and other shared amenity spaces.
Planning permission was granted in 2021 for a development comprising 90 coliving units.
The new application includes a number of modifications, including a change of upper floor layouts – with the removal of two-bedroom apartments and increasing the number of coliving apartments. A change has also been made to the roofline, including a reduction in duplex units and a reduced building height to Ward Street.
A planning statement accompanying the application said: “In keeping with the acceptability of the previous approval, the finalised proposals provide a design and density of development that will greatly enhance the characteristics of the surrounding area and the built environment in which it will be set, as well as making a significant contribution to the wider ongoing growth and regeneration in the Kelham area.”
