UK: 2 Trafalgar Way, the future home of Europe’s largest Passivhaus student accommodation scheme, has reached its full height with the topping out of Tower 2 in London.
Once complete, the three-tower development in Poplar will deliver 1,672 student bedrooms and 80 residential apartments across 28, 36 and 46 storeys.
Led by developer Urbanest, the scheme is targeting both BREEAM Outstanding and Passivhaus certification, aiming to set new standards for sustainability and energy performance in large-scale student housing.
Designed by architecture practice Apt, the project incorporates advanced insulation, triple glazing and passive energy systems that reduce space heating demand by up to 75 per cent compared to traditional new builds in the UK.
At the recent topping out ceremony, attendees from JRL Group, UCL and Evergreen joined the project team for a concrete pour on level 45.
The towers are each subtly rotated to align with a listed church spire in Poplar.
Bram Van Der Wal, director at Apt, said: “Our vision for 2 Trafalgar Way was to create a vertical campus, where living, studying, and working successfully co-exist, serving to create an enriching environment which will extend into the ground floor public realm and beyond.
“We’re thrilled that we have reached this milestone and very excited to see the scheme continue towards completion,” he added.
