UK: Joint developers MRP and Vita Group have been granted planning consent for a 540-bed student accommodation block in Birmingham City Centre.

Construction at the Gough Street site will start this summer with completion planned for summer 2026 to coincide with the start of the academic year.

The 29-storey scheme was initially rejected because it was deemed as “too overbearing”. As well as 540 studio apartments, the project will feature private dining rooms, a gym, and an outdoor terrace.

Max Bielby, chief operating officer at Vita Group said: “We’re delighted to achieve planning consent for this exciting new development in Birmingham with MRP. Demand for high-quality PBSA within Birmingham continues to outstrip supply, this in turn is creating wider pressures on the city’s housing infrastructure.”

Vita Group will own, operate, and manage the building under its Vita Student brand.

The building is designed to be highly sustainable, meeting BREAAM Very Good standards.

MRP and VIta Group are also working together on a PBSA scheme in Belfast.
