US: The newly-constructed 280-room citizenM Chicago Downtown has opened in a mixed-use building.

Located on Michigan Avenue, the 47-storey building also offers 289 residential units and 25,000 square feet of retail space.

The hotel was designed by bKL in collaboration with architecture partner Concrete. Nina Chanel Abney was commissioned to transform the building’s exterior terrace and entrance walls.

All guest rooms come with an XL king-size bed, an HD TV, and a rain shower. Blinds, temperature, lights and more can be controlled by an iPad or via the citizenM app.

In July 2022, citizenM launched citizens of the world — a global content series to highlight the communities where the brand is present. JC Rivera is the art citizen for Chicago Downtown whose work will feature throughout the guest rooms.

The hotel has also partnered with ArtLifting – a platform for underrepresented artists – to curate bespoke pieces. The program offers artists the opportunity to secure income through the sale of pieces.

Other amenities at the hotel include a 24/7 gym and three societyM meeting rooms which are available for guest and public use.

citizenM Chicago Downtown joins existing citizenM hotels in Boston, New York, Seattle, Los Angele, San Francisco, and Washington DC. The group operates 10 hotels across the country and 27 worldwide.

By 2024, citizenM is aiming to reach 40 operational properties globally and currently has hotels under development in Miami and Austin.
