UK: A £100 million mixed-use scheme next to Nottingham’s railway station has taken a step forward after planning permission to demolish buildings on the site was granted by the city council.

Developer MRP’s proposal for the 1.5-acre site in the Canal Quarter includes a 145-apartment scheme, alongside a 406-bed student development and associated public realm. An initial application in 2019 also included a hotel.

The council has now given the green light to knock down four commercial buildings on the site.

In 2019, national planning and development consultancy Lichfields was appointed by the developer to deliver the planning consent, and the parties held a public consultation on the proposals

Lichfields planning director Ian Kettlewell said: “This development displays investor confidence in Nottingham and plays a key part in the regeneration of the Canal Quarter.

Consarc has been named as the architect on the scheme.
