Green light for Camden Town PBSA scheme

Camden PBSA
Reading Time: 2 minutes

UK: Regal and 4C Group have received planning permission for two purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) buildings, following their planning application in November 2024.

The scheme features one building located at 33-35 Jamestown Road, next to The Roundhouse music venue, and another located at 211 Arlington Road, both of which are in the Borough of Camden, north London.

In total, the scheme will feature 178 PBSA rooms, 27 affordable homes and over 3,600 square feet of commercial space. The PBSA rooms will feature wellbeing and student areas, while the affordable units, including three family-sized maisonettes, will include access to a shared garden.

Steve Harrington, planning director for Regal, said: “The approval of 442 homes across two major sites in one evening is a real statement of intent – and a turning point for delivery in Camden. These are not off-the-shelf schemes: they bring forward genuinely affordable homes, much-needed student accommodation, and high-quality public realm in two very different but equally important locations. Our work with the London Borough of Camden has proven that it is possible for both public and private sector to work together with the speed and pragmatism that the planning system needs. This is the kind of delivery that makes a difference – not just more homes, but better ones.”

The scheme will be designed by Morris+Company.

Camden Council also granted Regal planning permission for 100 Avenue Road, retaining the original building’s height and massing, but increasing the number of homes from 184 to 237, 70 of which will be affordable.
