UK: Barking Riverside Limited (BRL) has appointed JLL and Cast Consultancy to advise on the next phase of the Barking Riverside regeneration project in east London.
JLL and Cast will partner with BRL on targeted strategic work, shaping the future development opportunities at the 443-acre site.
BRL is a joint venture between L&Q and the mayor of London. It is the master developer at Barking Riverside and is tasked with enhancing the conditions for development by investing in the infrastructure, planning and enabling works needed to bring individual plots forward, including roads, utilities and public spaces.
The neighbourhood is already home to more than 6,000 residents, five schools, a London Overground station and an Uber Boat by Thames Clippers pier connecting it to central London.
Its expanded masterplan has resolution to grant up to 20,000 homes and includes two major new public parks, further schools and community facilities, and improved access to the Thames.
Leigh Johnson, managing director of BRL, said: “Barking Riverside has an extraordinary opportunity ahead of it. We have the scale, the infrastructure and the long-term ambition to make a significant contribution to London’s housing needs, and we now want to build on those foundations and work with new partners to bring innovative new housing models into the development. We have a unique, market facing option to deliver houses at Barking Riverside – which is something that differentiates us across London.”
“Bringing together JLL’s market knowledge and reach with Cast’s specialist development and delivery expertise will help us turn that ambition into opportunities that the market wants to deliver. Just as importantly, it will help us make sure each new phase contributes to Barking Riverside as a whole – creating more homes, strengthening the neighbourhood and building a new London town,” he added.
Sajaad Ahmad, head of development consulting London and South East at JLL, said: “Barking Riverside is a project of significant scale and ambition, contributing to London’s future growth, and we are proud to have a key role in its next phase. Our focus will be on evolving the market, land and delivery strategy to support the long-term evolution of the masterplan and create a vibrant place that thousands of Londoners can call home. JLL is delighted to be working in partnership with Cast, combining their infrastructure and cost expertise with our market, development and delivery insight to help BRL create opportunities that are attractive and viable for partners and meet the needs of London families.”
Nick Hunter, owner director and masterplan sector lead at Cast Consultancy, said: “Barking Riverside has already established itself as one of London’s most ambitious new communities. The opportunity now is to build on those foundations, shape the right pathway for the next phase and support the continued delivery of the long-term vision for the masterplan. We’re delighted to be working with BRL and JLL to help create that momentum, unlocking more homes and supporting the continued growth of a thriving, sustainable community for existing and future residents.”
