UK: A planning application for a new PBSA project in Nottingham has been recommended for approval ahead of a planning committee meeting next week.
Olympian Homes has brought forward plans to develop the site which is currently vacant.
Approval is sought for 344 student accommodation apartments, which would provide 790 bed spaces, together with ancillary leisure and retail facilities.
The student living space is spread over three buildings, with the tallest element reaching seven storeys. Three types of student accommodation are proposed; town houses, cluster apartments and studios.
The scheme also includes the provision of 19 family houses.
A statement filed on behalf of the application with Nottingham City Council – whose planning committee meets on 22 June – said: “The proposed development is fully supported by local and national planning policy and represents an outstanding opportunity to secure sustainable development and local economic, social and environmental regeneration.”
A report for the committee added: “The Alfreton Road building has been designed to reflect the established streetscape of the area, having a strong brick frame with entrances and windows set within strongly defined apertures.
“The other buildings on the site, including the family housing, would have a similar appearance, ensuring that a consistent architectural theme is used throughout the development. The treatment of elevations and choice of materials are of a quality that would be a welcomed addition to the site and its surroundings. In conclusion, this is felt to be a well-considered scheme in urban design and architectural terms.”
