UK: Plans to convert a group of vacant office buildings on the Headrow in Leeds into more than 100 student flats have been given the green light by Leeds City Council.

Across three levels at Buildings B, C and D, an additional 45 studios would be created. A shared internal amenity space at ground floor level in Building C is also proposed.

Finally, six off-street car parking spaces and 36 secure cycle spaces are also planned.

Leeds City Council has granted planning permission for the conversion, which remains subject to certain conditions being met.

The planning officer’s report read: “The proposal would help extend the supply of student accommodation and would not result in the loss of existing housing.”

“It is considered that this part of the city centre does not have a particular concentration of student accommodation and the general vibrant nature of the city centre in terms of employment, active uses, nightlife and footfall means that student accommodation can be assimilated without harm; as such, the concentration would not be considered excessive,” it added.
