UK: Liverpool-based property development company Caro Developments has submitted a proposal for a 227-studio student development in Preston.
The site for the £22 million scheme is on Lawson Street, close to the main University of Central Lancashire [UCLan] campus in the city.
Following a period of consultation with residents and stakeholders, Caro Developments wants the student development to rise from seven to nine storeys high, and to include amenities such as a gym, study zone, lobby, cycle storage, games room, laundry room, cinema and a rooftop garden.
The Preston scheme has been designed by Falconer Chester Hall, while Zerum served as planning consultants.
Caro managing director Neil Carlyle said: “Preston’s student market has evolved since the pandemic and expectations have risen. Students have a more holistic view of how they want their home to contribute to their study and leisure time, as well as to their health and wellbeing. Our proposals address these needs directly.”
“Preston is flying at the moment. Heaton Group’s latest tower scheme has topped out, the former indoor market site is going through the gears and the Station Quarter will deliver a modern central office district that will attract quality occupiers to the city. It’s a good time to invest here,” he added.
