UK: PBSA developer and operator Unite Students topped out Burnet Point, its £59 million development in Edinburgh, with a ceremony held alongside construction partner GRAHAM.

Located on Abbey Lane, Burnet Point will offer 298 student bedrooms in a mix of studios and cluster flats, alongside 66 residential apartments and 17 affordable homes managed by Hillcrest Homes.

The mixed-use scheme is on track to open ahead of the 2025/26 academic year.

Tom Brewerton, group development director at Unite Students, said: “This marks a significant step in delivering high-quality and affordable accommodation to help meet the supply challenges in Edinburgh. Once open, this property will help free up privately rented homes in the city for use by families, reducing housing shortage pressures.”

Unite said Burnet Point is its lowest-carbon new build to date, as it was built using low-carbon concrete and timber composite materials.

Gary Holmes, regional managing director at GRAHAM, said: “Burnet Point showcases our expertise in sustainable construction and mixed-use developments. The topping-out ceremony highlights the collective effort of all partners involved.”

Demand for student housing remains high in Edinburgh, where students make up nearly 20 per cent of the city’s population. Current estimates suggest the city needs an additional 17,000 PBSA beds to meet demand.
