US: Common has partnered with City Pads to open a 223-bed coliving apartment building in Chicago’s Little Italy that aims to provide affordable and quality housing to Illinois Medical District workers.
The residential building, Common Addams, features coliving space, in which residents get a private bedroom in a furnished home with shared common areas. It is Commin’s largest multifamily property under management in Chicago and its fourth with City Pads.
Common founder and CEO Brad Hargreaves said: “Now more than ever, Chicago residents need affordability and reliability in the places they call home. We’re so lucky to have found such a complimentary partner as City Pads to bring Common Addams to life and increase the housing stock for a neighbourhood that truly needs it – the Illinois Medical District.”
The building is near the state’s largest concentration of hospitals, a tech hub, two universities, and Pilsen, one of the cultural centres of Chicago.
“We are proud to see Common Addams open its doors and deliver on our promise to provide Chicago with its first large-scale coliving development,” said City Pads founder Andy Ahitow. “Bringing new housing to a city in desperate need of alternative and accessible residential options is core to our mission, and I love seeing Chicago’s medical community benefit from this living experience.”
Common Addams features more than 4,000 square feet of amenity spaces and an on-site parking garage. It has 300 square feet of furnished lounge space on each floor, a fully equipped gym, meditation room and remote work spaces. It also has a roofdeck furnished with couches, tables, lounge chairs and grills.
Rent for all Common properties includes utilities, high-speed Wi-Fi, furniture, weekly cleanings, shared supplies, laundry and pre-stocked household essentials.
