UK: 301 coliving apartments aimed at millennials and graduates are to be built in Guildford town centre.
A range of studio flats with shared communal spaces will be constructed in the former Burymead House site, abandoned since the Electricity Generating Board building was knocked down 20 years ago.
Located on Portsmouth Road and Bury Street, the development will be four to six storeys tall, four blocks wide. Around a fifth (67) of the total 301 apartments will be presented at discounted market rent.
Plans were approved on February 2 by Guildford Borough Council’s planning committee, 12 voting in favour and two abstentions.
Developers described the coliving development as “providing a convenient, flexible living environment and creating a ‘shared experience’ lifestyle, which strongly appeals to the millennial generation.”
The shared communal spaces will offer coworking areas, meeting rooms, a gym and exercise studios, communal dining for up to 75 people and private dining areas for smaller groups of 12, as well as laundry facilities.
Units will range in size from 18 to 30 square metres, with the addition of wheelchair adaptable units.
