UK: Plans for a development of student accommodation at Newcastle’s Quayside have been given the green light.
Developer Stripe Homes, supported by ELG and Napper Architects, submitted proposals to Newcastle City Council in 2019 for the redevelopment of the former Farmers Geotechnical Engineers site on Skinnerburn Road.
The plans include the construction of a new building of between six and nine storeys featuring 118 student apartments, cycle storage, launderette, common room, media room, reception office and gym.
A planning statement submitted as part of the application said the student accommodation development would “improve the mix of housing, as well as resulting in a number of economic benefits”.
Proposals were previously approved for a development comprising student accommodation and ground floor restaurant and bar. Work started on site in 2011 but ceased following the insolvency of Blythe House Developments.
