UK: Halcyon Development Partners, investor Mitheridge and architects Morris+Company have won planning consent for 337 coliving units plus workspace in Hackney Wick, east London.

The London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) gave unanimous approval to the proposals for an eight-storey coliving scheme and workspace at 115-119 Wallis Road.

Submitted in February, the scheme involves demolishing existing warehouse buildings on the site. Between the 1890s and 1940s, the site was home to the Clarnico Works Confectionery Factory. It has since been used by artists and as light industrial storage space.

Morris+Company’s scheme comprises two eight-storey buildings providing 337 coliving units as well as an internal courtyard and new public realm facing the Lee Navigation waterway, which separates the 0.9 hectare site from the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

The proposal also includes 1,020 square metres of flexible workspace, 1,280 square metres of resident amenity space, and 1,760 square metres of new public realm. Both buildings will have roof gardens connected by a bridge.

Morris+Company’s associate director and residential lead, Hugh Queenan, said: “The design of the development has been shaped with the vibrant character of Hackney Wick in mind, blending innovative co-living spaces with dynamic public areas and creative enterprise. It’s an exciting opportunity to contribute to the regeneration of this unique area, and we look forward to bringing our vision to life in collaboration with Mitheridge, Halcyon, and the local community.”

The LLDC is due to return planning powers to Hackney Council later this year.
