Mapletree takes management of UK student portfolio in-house with Student Castle appointment

UK: Student Castle has been appointed to manage a portfolio of 21 purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) assets across the UK.

The portfolio was put up for sale by Mapletree in October 2024 with a guide price of £450 million. It remains unsold and will now be operated by the Singapore investor’s in-house management arm Student Castle. The properties were previously managed by Homes For Students.

The properties are:
Aberystwyth – Alexandra Hall
Birmingham – Canalside
Leicester – Ben Russell Court
Lincoln – Danesgate House
Liverpool – St Andrew’s Gardens and Windsor Court
London – Hawley Crescent, Janet Poole House, Landale House, Lightfoot Hall, Garrow House
Manchester – Daisybank Villas, Heald Court, Manchester Court, Manchester House, Oxney House and Gardens, Park View
Nottingham – Bowman House, Nottingham Square, The Glasshouse
Sheffield – Rockingham House

A Student Castle statement said: “We are delighted to announce a significant expansion of the Student Castle portfolio, marking another important step in our continued growth across the UK purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) sector. This latest addition represents a meaningful increase in our operational footprint and reflects the trust placed in Student Castle by our partners. Our focus will be on ensuring a seamless handover for residents, universities, and stakeholders, while maintaining continuity of service and operational excellence from day one. The news comes shortly after Mapletree announced it is winding down its $1.3 billion (£1.02 billion) student accommodation fund after it fell well short of performance targets.
