UK: John Gellatly has joined Bridges Fund Management as a non-executive director to help drive the continued growth of Bridges’ property platform.
Gellatly brings nearly 40 years of experience in global real estate investment and most recently was chief investment officer for real estate at sovereign wealth fund Abu Dhabi Investment Council (ADIC) where he oversaw its global real estate portfolio. Previously, he led Aviva Investors’ global indirect real estate platform and held senior roles at BlackRock, Credit Suisse First Boston, and ABN AMRO.
In his new role, he will work closely with Bridges chair Philip Newborough, CEO Michele Giddens, and investment lead Simon Ringer. He also currently serves as chair of the RICS Property Investment Forum.
“We’re thrilled to welcome John to the board. Over the past 15 years, our UK property platform has gone from strength to strength. John’s breadth of experience, strategic insight, and global network will be instrumental as we aim to accelerate our growth in the coming decade,” said Newborough.
Gellatly added: “I met the Bridges team over 20 years ago and have admired their journey ever since. I believe sustainable, impact-driven real estate plays a crucial role in the future, and Bridges is already a leader in this space. I’m excited to help expand the platform and continue showcasing its value.”
Bridges was founded in 2002 by Sir Ronald Cohen, Michele Giddens and Philip Newborough, driven by “a shared belief that business and investment can help address some of the world’s most pressing social and environmental challenges”.
Over the subsequent two decades, it raised more than £1.7 billion across three private markets strategies, and played a significant role in building the global market for this kind of investing.
Recent projects include two coliving developments in London, in partnership with developer HUB, and a partnership with Housing Growth Partnership (HGP) to deliver the Shore Station purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) scheme in Leith, Edinburgh.
