UK: Moda Group has delivered more than £1.2 billion in social value over the past decade, according to its latest ESG report.
The Moda Next Generation Futures report outlines the rental living developer-operator’s environmental, social and governance performance in 2024 and over the last ten years.
The report highlights the group’s cumulative impact since 2014, including £57 million in social value, £97 million in environmental contributions, and £1.1 billion in economic impact.
One of the projects highlighted in the report is the ongoing development of a £100,000 skills hub at Moda’s Great Charles Street neighbourhood in Birmingham. Developed in partnership with the West Midlands Combined Authority and construction partner Sisk, the initiative provides free on-site training and guaranteed job interviews for participants.
The report says that, to date, more than 60 apprentices have secured employment through the programme.
Moda has also supported sustainable transport initiatives across its sites. These include providing electric bikes at its Brighton neighbourhood, Moda, Hove Central, and collaborating with Transport for Greater Manchester to offer free Metrolink travel for residents at Angel Gardens.
The group’s investment in local communities includes £10 million towards community initiatives and public realm improvements in Brighton, and a £500,000 public art strategy.
In 2024, Moda launched a bespoke digital Social Value portal, developed with RLB Digital, to monitor ESG impacts across its projects. The platform consolidates data from delivery partners and supports Moda’s aim to improve transparency and accountability in its ESG commitments.
Other achievements highlighted in Moda’s 2024 ESG report include employing 150 apprentices, diverting 90 per cent of development waste from landfill, delivering over 300 wellbeing events, and continuing support for education and career access programmes like Pathways to Property.
Johnny Caddick, chief executive at Moda, said: “Over the last decade, Moda has focused on leading the way in build-to-rent homes, placemaking and ESG.
“This year’s report, looking at our impact in both 2024 and the journey we’ve been on over last 10 years, is testament to the hard work of every member of the team that we have built, which continues to deliver exceptional living experiences for communities across the UK.
“We’re proud of the progress outlined in the 2024 ESG report, and the opportunity it has given us to reflect on 10 years of commitment to community and sustainability. Moda remains committed to driving leading ESG standards across all of our projects and communities, and we look forward to continuing to work with partners across the industry in this space.”
Tarry Depledge, head of ESG at Moda said: “It’s been a brilliant year for all things ESG at Moda. We have spent this past year focussing on reducing our embodied and operational carbon levels, hiring locally, offering skills, training and real career opportunities while promoting physical, mental, social and financial wellbeing for both our residents and our team.
“We didn’t do this alone, it takes a neighbourhood to come together to shape our ESG activity and deliver the results which can be seen this year.”
