UK: Newcastle’s city council is expected to approve a 432-bed purpose-built student accommodation near St. James’ Park Friday.
Proposed by developer Hanro, current plans are to demolish the site at 11-17 Leazes Park Road to replace a mostly-vacant office building.
In its stead, Hanro will erect a 13-storey student accommodation, providing 318 standard studio bedrooms, 90 cluster bedrooms and 24 accessible studio rooms. All rooms will have access to an en-suite bathroom, while cluster bedrooms will come equipped with a kitchen, dining and lounge space for up to five residents.
Game and cinema spaces, study areas, a mailroom and laundry room are also included in the PBSA proposal. No student parking is planned, but the scheme does call for expanded walkway access to ease traffic during events at St. James’ Park.
