Scotland: Glasgow City Council has approved plans for the city’s first large-scale coliving development, granting permission for a 19-storey residential tower in Tradeston.
The scheme, brought forward by Copperstone Partners 2, will replace a vacant office building at 100 Morrison Street with a development delivering 420 compact studio apartments, alongside shared amenities and ground-floor commercial space.
Each studio will measure around 22 square metres and include a kitchenette, shower room and workspace. Communal facilities will include shared kitchens and lounges, a gym, cinema and games rooms, as well as a top-floor residents’ lounge with views across the city.
Designed by Claridge Architects, the development will provide extensive internal amenity space, landscaped terraces, cycle parking and a ground-floor café. Monthly rents will be inclusive of utilities, council tax, furnishings and access to organised social events.
The site sits close to major employment centres, including Barclays’ Scottish campus and Glasgow’s International Financial Services District. Developers said the scheme will contribute to ongoing regeneration in Tradeston.
Despite objections relating to building height, daylight and parking, planning officers recommended approval, describing the development as supportive of higher-density urban living.
