UK: Student housing developer and operator Fusion Group has received planning consent for a 507-bedroom PBSA scheme in Southampton.

The project features two buildings of five and six storeys containing 507 student bedrooms with amenities including private study spaces, fitness and wellness facilities.

Designed by architects Corstorphine and Wright, the development will also deliver 831 square metres of flexible commercial floorspace and around 724 square metres of public open space, including improvements to the local area on Portswood Road.

BREEAM Outstanding certification is targeted for the scheme, with the PBSA building aiming to achieve a 29 per cent betterment over Building Regulations Part L.

Julian Evans, development director at Fusion Group, said: “As a developer and operator of exceptional living assets, Fusion’s focus is on creating places that support the health and wellbeing of residents and the community as a whole – our Southampton scheme is a leading example of this. We’re looking forward to continuing to work with the community, our partners and the council to deliver on our vision.”

The Southampton project forms part of Fusion’s forward development pipeline, which has the potential to deliver a further 10,000 beds across the living sector by 2030.
