Belgium: The Louise by Clockwise, a new flexible workspace venue in Brussels, is set to open on November 3.
Designed by SODA Studio in collaboration with SHAKE Design & Build and Benofice, the building combines Art Nouveau touches with contemporary functionality. The design team at SODA Studio, led by Elevyn Sung, have reimagined the building into a modern workspace by integrating intricate warm colour palettes and ergonomic furniture, ensuring both aesthetic appeal and practical use.
The Louise by Clockwise draws heavily on the city’s Art Nouveau legacy, with inspiration from landmarks such as Victor Horta’s Hotel Tassel and Solvay. The design celebrates local craftsmanship through bespoke joinery and the inclusion of Belgian artists’ works.
Sustainability is at the core of The Louise by Clockwise, with carefully selected materials such Richlite, made from compressed paper, and recycled plastic worktops from Smile Plastics, reflecting a commitment to eco-conscious design. The project prioritises furniture from manufacturers with environmental certifications, ensuring durability and responsible sourcing.
Evelyn Sung, architect at SODA Studio, said: “Our starting point was inspired by Art Nouveau works, which are so distinct for Brussels. We drew from these nearby projects, particularly the intricacy and sculptural quality of their joinery, and sought to reinterpret those elements in our own designs. When it came to the artwork, our decisions focused on highlighting Belgian artists, emphasizing local talent for the project. We didn’t limit ourselves to paintings—there are also three-dimensional woven tapestries that add texture and depth. These pieces also echo our existing colour palette, creating a cohesive and complementary effect.”
“All of our manufacturers hold environmental certifications. For example, our furniture and suppliers are certified by PEFC, which ensures that the wood we use comes from sustainably managed forests. This commitment to certification guarantees that our materials meet high environmental standards,” she added.
Christophe Torfs, Sales Manager, Benofice, said: “All of our manufacturers hold environmental certifications. For example, our furniture and suppliers are certified by PEFC, which ensures that the wood we use comes from sustainably managed forests. This commitment to certification guarantees that our materials meet high environmental standards.”
The Louise will be Clockwise’s first independent management agreement, with real estate fund Patrizia, and its second venue in Brussels. It is set across two floors and will house more than 300 desks within private offices, dedicated desks, a club lounge and bookable meeting rooms.
